Students worked from their own drawings or

photographs creating values using different densities of black marks.

 

 

 

 

White pencil drawings

Learning to draw is about observation. Drawing with a white pencil on black paper helps to strengthen students’ ability to see shapes of light and shadow.  Students used a grid to assist them in seeing proportions and relationships between parts. The practice dates back farther than the Italian Renaissance.    

 





Some students chose to leave the grid as part of their composition.
